Organisation Overview

Who We Are

The International Karatedo Organization Kyokushinkaikan Sonoda Group — publicly known as Kyokushin Sonoda — is an international karate organisation rooted in the full-contact tradition of Kyokushin as taught by its founder, Sosai Masutatsu Oyama.

The organisation exists to preserve the authentic principles of Kyokushin, to maintain rigorous standards of training and examination, and to develop a credible international network of practitioners, instructors and dojos committed to those standards.

Led by Kaicho Naoyuki Sonoda, the organisation is presented through its international structure of country representatives, branches and dojos, alongside its Singapore Branch.

The name Kyokushin Sonoda reflects both the style and the lineage. Every affiliated dojo and representative carries a responsibility not merely to train practitioners, but to represent the values, discipline and spirit that make Kyokushin distinct.

This website is designed as the organisation's central resource for its identity, international structure, Singapore Branch activities, events and news. Biographical, directory and event details are published only after organisational confirmation.

Heritage

Why Lineage Matters

In Kyokushin, the transmission of technique, spirit and values from teacher to student is not ceremonial — it is the substance of the art. Kyokushin Sonoda traces its lineage directly to Sosai Oyama and upholds that transmission as a living responsibility.

Kyokushin Philosophy

Principles of Practice

The following principles guide training, conduct and character within Kyokushin Sonoda. They are not marketing language — they are the framework within which practitioners are expected to train and represent the organisation.

Osu
Perseverance & Respect

The spirit of Osu — enduring difficulty, showing respect, maintaining humility. The single word that carries the meaning of Kyokushin training.

Budo
The Martial Way

Kyokushin is a budo — a martial way — not merely a sport. Training develops character as much as technique. The dojo is a place of serious practice.

Jiyu
Honest Contact

Full-contact kumite requires honesty, courage and the willingness to test one's limits. There is no substitute for genuine contact in understanding one's own capabilities.

Today

Where We Are Today

From its Singapore base, Kyokushin Sonoda is building a credible international organisation — one that prioritises authentic lineage, rigorous standards and honest representation over rapid expansion.

Country representatives, branches and dojos are added as the organisation confirms that the correct people, standards and infrastructure are in place. The organisation directory reflects the current, verified state of that network.
